Frequently asked questions
What DPI should I use for printing?
300 DPI is the industry standard for high-quality prints like brochures, business cards, and photos. For large-format prints viewed from a distance, 150 DPI is often sufficient.
What's the difference between DPI and PPI?
PPI measures pixel density on a screen. DPI measures ink dot density in print. For digital design, PPI is technically correct, but the terms are used interchangeably.
Does changing DPI change image quality?
Not by itself. DPI only affects print size. A 3000×2000px image at 300 DPI prints at 10×6.67 inches. The same image at 72 DPI prints at 41.7×27.8 inches but with lower quality.
What PPI is considered Retina?
Apple considers ~220+ PPI as Retina for desktop displays and ~326 PPI for phones. At these densities, individual pixels are indistinguishable at typical viewing distances.
