Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Logic Pro and GarageBand?

Logic Pro is Apple's professional DAW with advanced features like Flex Time, comprehensive MIDI editing, surround sound, and professional plug-ins. GarageBand is a simplified version for beginners. Logic Pro can open GarageBand projects and expand on them.

How do I reduce latency in Logic Pro?

Lower your buffer size in Preferences → Audio → I/O Buffer Size. Use 64 or 128 samples for recording, and increase to 256-1024 for mixing. Enable Low Latency Mode (⌥+L) when recording with software instruments.

How do I use Flex Time?

Enable Flex Time by clicking the Flex button in the track header or pressing ⌘+F. Choose a Flex mode (Polyphonic for chords, Rhythmic for drums, etc.), then drag transients to adjust timing.

Can I use third-party plugins?

Yes, Logic Pro supports Audio Units (AU) plug-ins. Install AU-compatible plug-ins and they'll appear in Logic's plug-in menus. Use the Plugin Manager (Logic Pro → Preferences → Plug-in Manager) to manage them.

How do I export stems from Logic Pro?

Use File → Export → All Tracks as Audio Files. Set your desired format, bit depth, and sample rate. You can also solo tracks and bounce individually using File → Bounce → Project or Section.

What's the best way to organize a large project?

Use Track Stacks to group related tracks, color-code tracks by type, use markers for song sections, and create folder tracks. Hide unused tracks with H and use Screensets for different workflow views.
