Pro tips

Slash Commands for Everything

Type / to access every block type, embed, database, and integration. It's faster than any menu. Learn the names and you'll rarely need your mouse.

Turn Blocks into Anything

Select a block and press Ctrl+/ (⌘+/) to convert it to any other type. Turn text into a heading, a bullet list into a toggle, or a paragraph into a callout.

Markdown Shortcuts Work Inline

Type **, ## , >, [], or ``` at the start of a line to instantly create formatted blocks. Notion supports most Markdown syntax natively.

Drag Blocks to Create Columns

Drag any block to the right edge of another block to create side-by-side columns. This works for any content type - text, images, databases, embeds.

Quick Find is Your Best Friend

Ctrl+P (⌘+P) opens Quick Find. Search across all your pages, databases, and content instantly. Use it to navigate instead of scrolling through the sidebar.

Use Templates for Repetitive Content

Create template buttons in databases for repeatable page structures. Use /template to add a template button anywhere for recurring content patterns.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a table in Notion?

Type /table to create an inline table (simple) or /table database for a full database table. You can also type /table view to add a table view to an existing database. Simple tables are best for quick data; database tables support filters, sorts, and formulas.

How do I use Notion databases effectively?

Start with a database template (Task List, Reading List, etc.). Add properties for metadata (status, date, tags). Use views (Table, Board, Calendar, Gallery) to see the same data differently. Link databases with Relations and Rollups for powerful connections.

Can I use Notion offline?

Notion has limited offline support. Recently visited pages are cached and editable offline, and changes sync when you reconnect. For full offline access, consider exporting important pages as Markdown or PDF.

How do I share a Notion page publicly?

Click Share in the top right, then toggle 'Share to web.' You'll get a public URL. You can allow comments, editing, or search engine indexing. For a custom domain, use a service like Super.so or Notion.site.

What's the difference between pages and databases?

Pages are freeform documents - write anything. Databases are structured collections of pages with properties (like columns in a spreadsheet). Every database entry is itself a page you can open and add content to.

How do I import content into Notion?

Go to Settings → Import. Notion supports importing from Evernote, Trello, Asana, Google Docs, CSV, Markdown, and HTML. You can also paste content directly - Notion preserves most formatting.
