Pro tips

Push to Talk Saves Meetings

When you're muted, hold Space to temporarily unmute. Release to mute again. This prevents background noise while letting you speak quickly when needed.

Virtual Backgrounds Without Green Screen

Go to Settings → Background & Effects. Zoom's AI can blur your background or replace it entirely. Use a solid-color wall behind you for best results.

Breakout Rooms for Group Work

As host, use Breakout Rooms to split participants into smaller groups. Pre-assign rooms before the meeting or let Zoom auto-assign randomly.

Meeting Reactions Are Underused

Use Alt+1 - 5 for quick reactions instead of unmuting to say 'yes'. Reactions appear on your video tile and in the Reactions panel without interrupting.

Schedule Recurring Meetings

Use the same meeting link for recurring meetings. In the scheduler, check 'Recurring meeting'. Participants can join without a new link each time.

Touch Up Appearance

Settings → Video → Touch up my appearance. This adds a soft-focus filter. Also adjust 'Low light' to auto-optimize in dim environments.

Frequently asked questions

How do I mute everyone in a Zoom meeting?

As the host, press Alt+M (Windows) or ⌘+⌃+M (Mac) to mute all participants. You can also click 'Mute All' at the bottom of the Participants panel.

Can I use keyboard shortcuts in Zoom web client?

The web client supports fewer shortcuts than the desktop app. For full shortcut support, download and use the Zoom desktop application.

How do I change Zoom keyboard shortcuts?

What does 'Push to Talk' mean?

When you're muted, hold the Space bar to temporarily unmute yourself. When you release Space, you're muted again. Enable it in Settings → Audio → 'Press and hold Space to temporarily unmute'.

How do I share my screen in Zoom?

Press Alt+S (Windows) or ⌘+⇧+S (Mac) to open the share screen dialog. Choose entire screen, specific window, or browser tab. You can also share iPhone/iPad screen or a whiteboard.

How do I record a Zoom meeting?

Press Alt+R for local recording or Alt+C for cloud recording (paid plans). The host must enable recording. Local recordings save as MP4 after the meeting ends.
